A WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM THIS MORNING TO 9 PM MDT THIS EVENING.

* LOCATION... ALL OF NORTHERN AND CENTRAL NEW MEXICO... INCLUDING THE ALBUQUERQUE AND SANTA FE METRO AREAS.

* WINDS... SOUTHWEST TO WEST SUSTAINED AT 25 TO 35 MPH WITH OCCASIONAL GUSTS TO 50 AND 55 MPH.

* TIMING... WINDS WILL BE MOST LIKELY TO STRENGTHEN ALONG THE HIGHER TERRAIN OF THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE... THE CENTRAL MOUNTAIN CHAIN... AND EASTERN SLOPES LATE THIS MORNING. STRONG WINDS WILL THEN SPREAD INTO ADJACENT LOWER ELEVATIONS SUCH AS THE RIO GRANDE VALLEY AND THE EASTERN PLAINS THROUGH THE EARLY AFTERNOON. WINDS WILL GRADUALLY DECREASE IN SPEED BETWEEN SUNSET AND 9 PM.

* VISIBILITY... VISIBILITIES MAY BE LOCALLY REDUCED TO 3 MILES OR LESS IN BLOWING DUST. VISIBILITIES MAY ALSO BE REDUCED TO BELOW 3 MILES IN SMOKE DOWNSTREAM OF THE WALLOW AND PACHECO CANYON WILDFIRES.

* LOCAL IMPACTS... CROSS WINDS MAY IMPACT TRAVEL... ESPECIALLY HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES... ON NORTHWEST TO SOUTHEAST ORIENTED HIGHWAYS. THIS INCLUDES PORTIONS OF INTERSTATE 25 BETWEEN SANTA FE AND LAS VEGAS AND PORTIONS OF INTERSTATE 40 BETWEEN GALLUP AND GRANTS. TRAVELERS ALONG U.S. HIGHWAYS 64... 84... AND 285 WILL ALSO EXPERIENCE STRONG CROSS WINDS.

MOTORISTS SHOULD EXERCISE CAUTION WHILE TRAVELLING. SUDDEN GUSTS OF WIND MAY CAUSE YOU TO LOSE CONTROL OF YOUR VEHICLE. EXTRA ATTENTION SHOULD BE GIVEN TO CROSS WINDS.

A VIGOROUS UPPER LEVEL LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL SWING THROUGH THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN ROCKIES TODAY AND TONIGHT. THIS SYSTEM WILL BRING UNSEASONABLY STRONG WINDS TO ALL OF NORTHERN AND CENTRAL NEW MEXICO BEGINNING BY LATE MORNING AND CONTINUING THROUGH THIS EVENING. GIVEN THE PERSISTENT DRY CONDITIONS... BLOWING DUST WILL BE A CONCERN. THESE STRONG WINDS MAY ALSO CARRY SMOKE PLUMES FROM EXISTING WILDFIRES FURTHER DOWNSTREAM THAN IN RECENT DAYS. STRONG AND GUSTY WEST TO NORTHWEST WINDS COULD PERSIST SUNDAY NIGHT AND INTO MONDAY... MAINLY FROM THE EAST SLOPES OF THE CENTRAL MOUNTAIN CHAIN AND OVER THE EASTERN PLAINS... AS THE SYSTEM EXITS INTO KANSAS AND NEBRASKA.
