Wilson appointed to the General Staff of MOWW

At the Annual Convention of The Military Order of the World Wars, Commander of Los Alamos’ Major General Franklin E. Miles Chapter 229, United States Air Force Lt. Col. (Retired) Norman G. Wilson, was appointed General Staff Officer and to Chair the MOWW’s National Homeland Security Committee.

The convention, the 88th annual for the MOWW, was held in Columbus, Ga., July 30-Aug. 2.

The regular monthly dinner meeting of the Major General Franklin E. Miles Chapter 229 of the MOWW will be Aug. 19, at the Aspen Ridge Lodge.

The meeting will kick off with a social period at 6 p.m., followed by a short business meeting at 6:25 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m.

The scheduled program for the meeting is a talk on Los Alamos National Laboratory’s airborne tracking of chemical plumes resulting from fires, such as those that occurred during hurricanes Katrina and Rita, as well the wildfires throughout the western United States.

The Major General Franklin E. Miles Chapter 229, chartered in 1994 in Los Alamos, currently meets on the third Tuesday of the month at the Aspen Ridge Lodge The dinner meetings are open to the public.

The Military Order of The World Wars founded in 1919, at the personal initiative of then-General of the Army General John “Black Jack” Pershing, by Act of Congress. MOWW composed of federally-commissioned officers of all Uniformed Services of the United States.

The primary objective of the Order is service to the nation as a continuation of the oath taken by each officer when commissioned.

Among the current principal focuses of MOWW are Youth Leadership Conferences throughout the country, awareness of the citizens of the United States to National Security issues and the issue of community and personal emergency preparedness in the Homeland Security arena.
