White Rock church welcomes new pastor

The congregation of White Rock Presbyterian Church welcomed the church’s new pastor, the Rev. John Guthrie, to the pulpit on Jan. 5.
Guthrie is a native Texan, having spent most of his early years in San Antonio. He has a bachelor’s degree in physics from Austin College (Sherman, Texas), a Ph.D. degree in physics from the University of Texas at Dallas, and a Master of Divinity degree from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary.
His first career was invested in software engineering, research and teaching.
Guthrie taught physics at the University of Central Oklahoma for seven years.
Guthrie was ordained as a minister in 2006 and served two churches previously, in Colorado and Utah. He is a third-generation Presbyterian pastor.
Guthrie has been married to Nancy Guthrie for 33 years and they have four children.
