Two big innings by the Silver City All-Stars were enough to knock White Rock out of the state tournament Wednesday in Taos.
Silver City scored five runs in the top of the third and three more in the fourth. White Rock only managed a pair of single tallies, falling 9-2 and ending its run in the tournament.
In the third inning, Silver City's Meah McDonald and Leslie Calvillo came through with back-to-back doubles to help their team take control of the game.
White Rock had a chance to get back into the game in the bottom of the third. Elizabeth Anaya singled in Rebecca Luster early in the inning, but after loading the bases with just one out, couldn't push another run across.
Hannah Mojica drove in Sarah Chiri in the fifth, but that would be all the scoring White Rock could muster Wednesday.
Mojica pitched the entire game, giving up seven hits and striking out eight. Silver City's Asia Morales struck out nine White Rock hitters and gave up just five hits.
"It has been a great ride this season," manager Tommy Mojica said. "I am extremely proud of all the girls, they have all been committed and dedicated all summer long for practices and games. I have girls that juggle 2 or 3 sporting events including softball, I give them alot of credit, that in itself is an awesome accomplishment."
