Welcoming in a new year

For some people, the New Year may be started off with fireworks, or clouds of confetti or glasses clinking together, but why not do things a little differently for 2009? Kick off the New Year with drama.

Los Alamos Little Theatre is hosting a special New Year’s Eve performance of its upcoming production of “Ten Nights in a Barroom.”

The doors of the Little Theatre will open at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The show, a “typical prohibition type of drama” depicts a drunk who loses his daughter because of his drinking problem but eventually is able to turn his life around, director Tom Severinghaus said.

The curtain does not close on the evening after the play is finish, at 10:30 p.m., dinner will be served. Bob’s Bodacious Barbecue will supply the meats. There will be also party favors, appetizers and music.

This has been a long tradition for LALT, Severinghaus said. He estimates the New Year’s Eve celebration has been held 30 years.

It’s an enjoyable tradition, he added, offering theatre to the community. “It’s my love, my passion. It’s keeps my sanity. And everybody here likes to have a good time, that’s why we do it.”
