Both the Los Alamos baseball and softball teams have big District 2AAAA games scheduled today.
The teams will be at home taking on the Bernalillo Spartans. Both games are scheduled for 4 p.m.
Both 2AAAA baseball and softball races will likely be three-team affairs, with Los Alamos, Bernalillo and Española Valley in the running.
In baseball, Bernalillo is on a hot streak. The Spartans (8-5-1 overall, 2-0 in 2AAAA) have won five games in a row heading into today's contest. Saturday, the Spartans crushed hapless Capital in a doubleheader, winning the two games by a combined 37-1.
Los Alamos and Bernalillo met earlier this season at the St. Pius X Invitational, with Bernalillo prevailing 9-8.
The Hilltoppers (2-12 overall, 1-0 in 2AAAA) took it on the chin in their last outing, falling to Albuquerque Academy, 22-12, in a nondistrict contest.
In softball, Los Alamos (6-7 overall, 1-0 in 2AAAA) has won three games in a row and four of its last six. Los Alamos crushed Taos in its district opener March 31, 18-2.
Bernalillo's softball team, likewise, has played well in recent contests. In a doubleheader against Capital Saturday, the Spartans (4-5) shut out the struggling Jaguars 15-0 and 21-0 to start off the district season.
