More Information

HEAVY RAIN BEGINNING THIS EVENING WILL INCREASE FLOODING RISK...

INCREASED MOISTURE HAS SURGED IN FROM THE EAST AHEAD OF A BACK DOOR COLD FRONT... AND AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH IS EXPECTED TO APPROACH NEW MEXICO FROM THE WEST BY TONIGHT. MODERATE TO HEAVY RAINFALL IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP FROM THE NAVAJO DAM AREA IN NORTHWESTERN NEW MEXICO SOUTHWARD TO THE GRANTS AREA AND BEYOND. MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN COULD FALL OVER EXISTING SNOW PACK IN THE FAR NORTHWEST HIGHLANDS... SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS... AND THE JEMEZ MOUNTAINS. THIS WOULD CAUSE RUNOFF TO ESCALATE... AND WOULD INCREASE THE RISK OF FLOODING IN THESE AREAS... AS WELL AS THE ADJACENT LOWER CHAMA RIVER VALLEY.
