We should support the Elks

Dear Editor,

In response to Mr.Hollis’ letter, I am appalled at the fact that our county leadership would even think to try to get the Elk’s Lodge to try to sell its building or even do infra-structure to meet the county needs.

I am not a member of the Elks, but I have had the utmost beneficial honor to attend many of their fundraising events from its Halloween dance, comedy night, golf tournament, and many other events these people organize to raise funds of those in need.

This is an organization along with the V.F.W. and American Legion that gives to this community without asking for anything back. I’ve seen first hand the Elk’s lodge raise money for a good friend of mine who’s daughter suffers from Cystic Fibrosis.

This is the same organization that opened up its kitchen along with the American Legion to feed our firefighters during the Cerro Grande Fire and was published in People Magazine! The Elks, V.F.W., and American Legion also host our annual Thanksgiving Dinner for those of us who have no family, the elderly, and the less unfortunate.

To lose one of these organizations would be truly detrimental to our community and an atrocity.
