Most animals come and go from the Los Alamos Animal Shelter, but this is not the story for Nalani and Puff. The two cymric long-haired cats came to the shelter and have stayed at the shelter for longer than average. Puff, and his sister, Nalani, have experienced two failed adoptions. Their shyness and long hair both require attention and while their new owners meant well, they didn’t realize the type of care these cats need. As a result, the two cats have resided at the shelter for about year.Volunteers at Friends of the Shelter are trying to reverse the siblings’ fortunes. “(We are trying) to find adopters who know (cymric’s) issues and can deal with them. The search is on to adopt them … to find them a good home,” Mary Timmers, vice president of Friends of the Shelter, said. Peter Roberts, Friends of the Shelter volunteer, said they are looking for people who are willing to make a commitment and who truly understand Nalani’s and Puff’s issues.A quiet home would be good, especially one with no other pets and no children, he said. Additionally, the two cats need to stick together. Roberts explained the brother and sister have bonded; they have relationship.Adopters would not be burdened, although Nalani and Puff require care, they are wonderful pets, Roberts said.
