Rogers – A longtime resident of Los Alamos, Walter LaVern Rogers (Vern), age 82, passed away April 25, 2008, at the Los Alamos Medical Center.
He is survived by his wife Frances, children Tracy, Kelly, Rick and wife Rebecca, and grandchildren Mitchell and Taylor.
Vern was born on a small farm in Clyde, Kansas, the youngest of nine children.
He worked as a technician for Boeing and served in the U.S. Navy on the battleship U.S.S. Furse, then graduated from Kansas State University in 1952 as an electrical engineer. He was hired on as a staff member with the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory, CMB Division. He became a member of the Engineering Division and worked at the Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility.
He retired from the lab in 1988.
He celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary with his wife Frances June 1, 2007. He was a member of the Benevolent Order of the Elks.
Vern’s warm, ever-present humor, and peaceful manner were among the gifts he shared with all who knew him. He will be missed by all of us.
In lieu of flowers, Frances Rogers will donate any gifts given to the family to the Cardiac Rehabilitation Center at the Los Alamos Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Los Alamos, N.M.
