The Larry R. Walkup Aquatic Center will play host to the Nick Nogar Memorial Invitational this weekend.
The Nick Nogar Invite is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at the aquatic center.
This open invitational is hosted by the Los Alamos Aquatomics, a local swimming club team which this year celebrated its 50th anniversary. The Aquatomics is one of the oldest sanctioned club teams in the state.
The long course meet is the largest hosted in Los Alamos and usually includes swimmers and teams from all across New Mexico. The event includes competition in all age categories from 10 and under to masters swimmers. Last year, nearly 200 swimmers from 11 different teams took part.
To accommodate the meet, the Walkup Center will only be open for early public lap swimming from 6-7:30 a.m. both days. More information about public activities this weekend at the Walkup Center can be obtained by calling 662-8170.
Nogar was a former Los Alamos master swimmer and a supporter of competitive swimming. In his honor, a portion of the meet’s concessions will go toward supporting the American Cancer Society.
