Dear Editor,
The greatest long-distance trail-running event in New Mexico will take place May 17 in Los Alamos. It is the Jemez Mountain 50 Mile, 50 Kilometer, and Half-Marathon Trail Runs. As of April 22, more than 278 entries had been received from 30 states for the third annual version of this popular event. Santa Fe National Forest has requested a 325 limit so it is important to register as soon as possible. All entries are accepted through e-mail with details at highaltitudeathletics.com. The 50 mile run will start at 5 a.m., the 50k at 6 a.m. and the Half at 7 a.m. at the Sheriff’s Posse Shack in Los Alamos. The route will traverse the trails that surround the community including Guaje Ridge,Pipeline Road, Caballo and Pajarito Peaks, and the Valle Grande. There is a 17-hour time limit for all races; consequently, even slow walkers are welcome to do the Half-Marathon.
