Volunteer to help our community

Dear Editor,

Los Alamos is endowed with many talented individuals who devote their time and energy to numerous local nonprofit organizations volunteering as board members, committee chairs and most importantly, as  “workers” who give innumerable hours to make events happen.

As a result, I would guess there is never a week when there is not an event, presentation, or lecture for the community’s enjoyment.  While Los Alamos has so many offerings, each organization is always in need of more dedicated volunteers.  Currently, the Los Alamos Arts Council (LAAC) is looking for volunteers who would like to serve as members of its governing board.

LAAC is the host of the following events: the Brown Bag Series, Guitars and Gateaux, Missoula Children’s Theatre, Kite Festival, May and November Arts and Crafts Fairs, Senior Recitals at Fuller Lodge, Fuller Lodge Winter Fest, Pumpkin Glow, Scarecrow Contest, and who knows what else in the future.  All of this work is done by one very committed employee and many dynamic volunteers.

I am appealing to the citizens of Los Alamos. If you want to be involved in the organization that is responsible for giving the above events to our community, call us at 663-0477.  Marlane Hamilton, LAAC’s executive director would be happy to provide you with more details and answer your questions.

If LAAC is not what you are interested in, look around. I know there is a group that would meet your interest and you too, can be a part of the volunteer element of Los Alamos.
