Volleyball players honored by district

The Los Alamos Hilltopper volleyball team picked up four first team nods in District 2-4A plus the Most Valuable Player Award for 2011.
The All-District awards were announced Saturday following Los Alamos’ 3-0 victory over the Bernalillo Spartans in the 2-4A tournament championship match.
Chase Ealey, a senior middle blocker for the Hilltoppers, was named the MVP for the 2011 season. Ealey was the most dominant hitter in the district, finishing the district tournament with 13 spike kills against Bernalillo.
Picked for the All-District first team were juniors Erin Kirk, Danielle Ortiz and Savanah Romero and senior Alicia Rendon.
Seniors Carli Downs and Mariah Zerr were named as district Honorable Mentions from Los Alamos, as was sophomore Allyssa Tedder.
The 2-4A’s Coach of the Year was Joe Moreno of Bernalillo.
