Volleyball: Lobos top Aggies 3-2

-A A +A

ALBUQUERQUE —  It's probably too soon to say the volleyball tide has shifted in the Rio Grande Rivalry between New Mexico Lobos and New Mexico State Aggies, but

the Lobos have the bragging rights for the second straight season.

The Lobos rallied from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits to dominate the fourth and fifth games Tuesday night at Johnson Center for a 3-2 win.

The Lobos lost the first game 25-20 and lost the third game 25-21. But UNM didn't really have much trouble with the Aggies in games two (25-16), four (25-17) or five (15-7). The Aggies took a quick 2-0 lead in the final game before UNM rallied and took control

of the court and the net.

"This feels so good," said Lobo senior Lisa Meeter.  "We talked about what we needed to do before the game and basically that was go out and fight to the end."

The Lobos' attack percentage was .467 in the deciding game. UNM also hit at a .410 percentage in the second game.

Kelly Williamson led the Lobos with 20 kills followed by Taylor Hadfield with 19, Meeter with 14 and Ashley Rhoades with 10. Jade Michaelsen had 50 assists.

The UNM back row came up big with Allison Buck registering 15 digs followed by Michaelsen with 13 and Meeter with 10.
