The Los Alamos Hilltopper volleyball team made light work of the visiting Bernalillo Spartans Saturday night.
The Hilltoppers picked up a pair of quick victories in the opening two games, then held on in game three of Saturday’s District 2AAAA match at Griffith Gymnasium to pick up the sweep.
The 25-15, 25-9, 25-16 win upped the Hilltoppers’ district mark to 6-0, which clinched the district-runner up spot for the squad with just two matches remaining in the regular season.
Bernalillo, which has limped through the 2008 season, fell to 0-14 overall, 0-4 in 2AAAA. On the season, the Spartans have won just seven games.
They were unable to add to that total Saturday against the district-leading Hilltoppers.
Bernalillo actually jumped out to early leads in both games one and three Saturday against historically slow-starting Los Alamos.
Los Alamos was out of alignment early in the first game which nabbed Bernalillo a 4-3 edge. In the third game, Bernalillo held a 2-1 advantage early on.
Taylor Ealey, a junior middle hitter for the Hilltoppers, had a match-high seven spike kills, including four in the third game, along with two third game block kills.
Sabrina Little had four spike kills on the match, three in the first game to get the Hilltoppers going, while Nicole Moore had a pair of spike kills for Los Alamos (11-7).
In the back row, sophomore Brooke Romero got the starting nod Saturday, earning four digs in game two as well a back row spike kill to put the Hilltoppers up 10-4.
Los Alamos has just one more home match remaining on the regular season — it will host either the district tournament semifinal or final the first week of November — that coming Wednesday against Española Valley.
