The Los Alamos Hilltopper volleyball team is the top seed in Pool D for the 2010 state playoffs.
The state Class AAAA playoffs will start Thursday at the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho.
Los Alamos, the District 2AAAA champion, earned a No. 4 overall seed in the state tournament, which gets going with the pool play round Thursday. In its pool, it will face fifth-seeded Piedra Vista and 12th-seeded Aztec.
Pool play is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. Thursday. Each team will play two games to 25 against each opponent. The team with the best record coming out of pool play will have a bye to the direct elimination quarterfinals.
Direct elimination play opens with the first round at 7:15 p.m. Thursday.
The other top seeds in pool play include No. 1 Albuquerque Academy, No. 2 Artesia and No. 3 Roswell.
In Class AAA, the Pojoaque Elks, the 2009 state champions, are the top seeded team heading into Thursday. The Elks will begin pool play at 8 a.m. Thursday, also at the Star Center.
