SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — A man who was on New Mexico's most wanted sex offenders list has been arrested at a Santa Fe motel but a second wanted man escaped.
Deputy U.S. Marshals acting on a tip say they went to a Motel 6 Sunday night looking for 24-year-old Jeremy Martinez. They found him at the motel along with fugitive sex offender Jonathan Chavez.
Martinez was handcuffed but escaped while agents were questioning Chavez. He was wanted for escape.
Chavez was convicted in 2007 of raping an intoxicated girl who left a party and was sleeping in a car. The 24-year-old had been wanted on a probation violation and failing to register as a sex offender since 2008.
Martinez is considered armed and dangerous.
