Update on road conditions, closings

Los Alamos National Laboratory announced on its emergency hotline that it will be closed today.

A strong winter storm pushed through the area dumping approximately 8-10 inches of snow overnight.

Light snow continues to fall this morning, but the storm system is moving out of the area and precipitation is expected to end by noon.

As of 5:51 a.m., Los Alamos Public Schools is on a delay due to weather condition.

All elementary and middle school classes will start two hours late and Los Alamos High School classes will start at 10 a.m.

LAPS announced on its information line that morning activites and its age 3-4 morning classes have been canceled. It also announced it will not have bus service this morning in the Quemazon area.

Just before 6 a.m., University of New Mexico-Los Alamos announced on its Facebook page that it will not hold classes today.

Weather is creating hazardous driving conditions on some northern and eastern New Mexico highways.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation says U.S. 54 is closed from Santa Rosa to Vaughn.

Difficult driving conditions exist on Interstate 25 from Raton to Las Vegas. Roads are snow packed and icy.

Crews are out plowing, salting and sanding down roadways.
