Ron Barber of Mechanical Design Engineering (AOT-MDE) will talk about the Stone Calendar Research Project in a Brown Bag Lecture from noon to 1 p.m. Jan. 22 at the Bradbury Science Museum. The talk, titled “Ancient Stone Calendars of the Southwest,” focuses on the hundreds of stone calendar sites located in the southwestern United States.
The Republican Party of Los Alamos County announces the 2014 pre-Primary convention at 7 p.m. Jan. 30 at the UNM-LA Jeannette Wallace Hall, Room 505. Registration begins at 6:30 p.m., and doors close promptly at 7 p.m. The Central Committee will meet briefly at 7 p.m. to elect the convention officers. At 7:15 p.m., the convention will begin with Ward Caucuses held to elect delegates to the County Pre-primary Nominating Convention.
Fee free day
On Monday, visitors may enjoy Bandelier as well as other national parks and monuments throughout the United States free of charge. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is the first of nine days throughout 2014 when all National Park Service sites will open their gates to visitors without charging entrance fees.
The Los Alamos Monitor offices will be closed Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Day.
