Monster Movie Wednesday at UNM-Los Alamos will feature “Shadow of the Vampire” (R, 1 hr 30 min.) at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the UNM-LA Lecture Hall in Bldg. 2. The movie is free and open to the public.
Director E. Elias Merhige’s exploration of the classic “Nosferatu” in his film “Shadow of the Vampire” (2000), starring John Malkovich and Williem Defoe (R, 1 hr 30 mins) is a fictionalized account of the making of famed German director, F.W. Marnau’s 1922 film. Screenwriter Stephen Katz’s clever portrayal of the real-life characters that made the original allows audiences to appreciate the art of filmmaking and vampirism. Willem Defoe’s Nosfertu steals the show as the spitting image of Max Schreck’s depiction of the tortured Count Orlock.
Monster Movie Wednesdays will conclude with “Interview with a Vampire” on Dec. 8.
