UNM-LA offers artistic pumpkin carving class

-A A +A

The University of New Mexico-Los Alamos will offer a class in artistic pumpkin carving taught by expert pumpkin carver Lori Dauelsberg.
The class meets from 6-8 p.m. for two consecutive Thursdays, Oct. 17 and 24, in room 614 on the UNM-LA campus.
“Pumpkin carving has become a much more sophisticated undertaking,” said Eva Artschwager, Director of Community Education. “The simple Jack-O-Lanterns that you may remember from childhood have been replaced by elaborate silhouettes of faces, spiders and complex scenes. It’s really amazing.”
When it comes to pumpkin carving, Dauelsberg is a professional. In her role on the Los Alamos Arts Council, she has been part of Fuller Lodge’s Pumpkin Glow event, in which thousands of carved pumpkins light up the lodge building and grounds. She has also coached beginners at numerous pumpkin carving parties in the area.
The class is designed for children over the age of 13 and younger children may be accompanied by a parent.
“This is the ideal event for the entire family,” Artschwager said. And the pumpkins will be ready just in time for Halloween.
