The University of New Mexico-Los Alamos (UNM-LA) will be hosting $tart $mart, an interactive salary negotiation workshop 9 a.m. until noon Friday, Feb. 28 in the Lecture Hall 230 on the UNM-LA campus.
The free workshop is open to all students, particularly women, but anyone interested in sharpening their salary-negotiating skills is welcome to attend.
The $tart $mart workshops are a joint project of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and the Women Are Getting Even (WAGE) Project.
According to the WAGE website, over the course of her working life, a woman will get paid roughly $1 million less than a man —simply because she is a woman.
The goal of the workshop is to provide benchmarks for salary and benefits, to offer salary negotiation and skill-building exercises and to highlight the personal consequences of the gender wage gap. Participants will also learn to develop a personal budget to help determine salary needs.
Early registration is encouraged since seating is limited to 40 participants. Light refreshments will be served. For more detailed information call 662-0332, or visit http://losalamos.unm.edu/community/start-smart.html.
