United Way of Northern New Mexico this year is issuing grant funding to nine out of 26 organizations that submitted proposal requests.
The nonprofit organizations selected include the following:
• Canones Early Childhood Center
• Las Clinicas del Norte
• La Clinica del Pueblo
• Embudo Valley Library and Community Center
• Rio Arriba/Los Alamos Foster Parent Association
• San Martin de Porres Soup Kitchen
• El Rito Library
• YMCA Teen Center
• Los Alamos Family Council
“We awarded $110,200 this year and really wish we could have funded all 26 proposals that we received,” said Executive Director Donna Schroeder of United Way of Northern New Mexico.
“The need is always greater than the resources. United Way funds these grants from our Community Solutions Fund and as designations to other than United Way entities increase, this fund declines. Our grants last year totaled $220,000, so the impact from reduced resources is very clear.”
Schroeder said to reverse this trend, people should designate their United Way contributions to United Way, which will allow the organization to desperse those funds amongst member agencies and grants.
