Back when 529 was under debate, one of the concerns/ issues was the omnibus nature of the ordinance. It placed many in the difficult position of voting for something one was against in order to vote for something one agreed with, or, conversely, voting for something wanted in order to vote against something not wanted. Several people brought this up, and the council members, singly and collectively, publicly and privately, assured folks that each item in 529 would be taken up singly and seperately when the time came. Now, we see that council is proposing to enfold the Airport Basin agreement with the Boyer agreement in a single ordinance. These are truly seperate items, for moving the current structures to Airport does not pre-determine what may or may not be built at Trinity. Each has its own pros and cons which are intrinsic to each individually, and any percieved over-lap is by desire only and not an a priori neccesity. We can be fairly certain that there will be some form of referendum on these items. There are those who think the Airport is a good idea and the Boyer development as not so great; there are those as may see it in reverse. To fold these into the same ordinance is to present present the community with the same dillemma as with 529.
