“Satchmo Shines On,” Jan McDonald’s Tribute to Louis Armstrong, brings a local musician’s lifelong dream to Fuller Lodge on Sunday. Well-known in Los Alamos as the high school band director for 29 years, McDonald’s teaching and extracurricular credentials playing trumpet are impressive. He won New Mexico Secondary Educator, Outstanding New Mexico Jazz Educator, was lead trumpet in the Rotterdam Orchestra World Cruise and took the 2010 New Mexico Music Awards prize for best jazz composition from his CD “Sweet Thing.” Inspired at age 10 after hearing Satchmo in Des Moines, McDonald has devoted his life to teaching and the study of trumpet.
The concert is at 4 p.m. Tickets are $20 at the door. For more information, contact organizer Victoria Rogers at 505-989-1088 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
