The ninth annual Jemez Mountain Trail Runs is set to go off bright and early Saturday morning.
The Trail Runs, which attract upwards of 500 runners annually, includes a 50-mile, 50-kilometer and half-marathon competition. Runners brave the trails starting from North Mesa and heading up toward Pajarito Mountain and back.
Last year, the long race was won by Matt Hart of Salt Lake City, who posted a very respectable time of 9 hours, 4 minutes, 57 seconds. He won the men’s competition by nearly 20 minutes over Jason Poole of Evergreen, Colo.
The closest finisher to Hart in the race was the women’s 50-mile winner, Diana Finkel of South Fork, Colo., who finished in 9:15:00.
Finkel finished nearly an hour ahead of runner-up Katie Arnold of Santa Fe.
The top local finisher in 2013 was Erica Baron, who won the women’s half-mile in a time of 1:50.36.
The 50-mile race starts before dawn Saturday. It goes off at 5 a.m. The 50K race will start at 6 a.m. and the half-mile race will get going at 8 a.m.
All the races begin at the Los Alamos Posse Lodge.
