-A A +A
By The Staff

The Los Alamos boys track and field team finished third in the Chili Quad Saturday at Rio Rancho.

Saturday’s meet, which also included Rio Rancho’s Rams, the Albuquerque Academy Chargers and the St. Pius X Sartans, was the season opener for both the Hilltopper boys and girls teams.

Both Los Alamos teams were happy with their early season performances at the meet.

The Hilltopper girls picked up five individual wins, with Laura Wendelberger winning both the high jump and 100-meter hurdles.

Girls teams scores haven’t yet been released.

Also winning for Los Alamos’ girls were Teresa Sandoval in the 1600 meters, Hayley Schake in the 200 meters, Chase Ealey in shot put and the 1600 relay team.

Ealey, the reigning 4A state champion, qualified for state in her first outing of the season in that event, throwing 40 feet, 3 inches.

On the boys side, David Stroud won the 200 meters, Sean Reardon won the 1600 meters and Brady Stokes had the top throw in javelin.

Check Tuesday’s Los Alamos Monitor for more results from Saturday’s Chili Quad.
