The Los Alamos Hilltopper girls track and field teams picked up three first-place finishes in Monday’s Marilyn Sepulveda Meet of Champions, while a top Hilltopper distance runner was also a winner.
Holly Walker, Alex Nichols and Chase Ealey were all winners at Monday’s girls meet, held at the University of New Mexico Track and Field Complex in Albuquerque.
On the boys side, Hilltopper Kyle Pittman was also a big winner, taking top honors in the boys 1,600 meters.
The Sepulveda meet is an invitation-only event bringing together the top athletes from around the state. The event is comprised of the top athletes in the state based on season-to-date finishes.
Ealey, who smashed the Los Alamos High School record in the shot put two weeks ago at home, topped her own record again Monday, throwing 45 feet, 2-1/2 inches to win that event. Ealey’s throw also topped the old M of C record of 42-4.
Nichols won the javelin Monday with her throw of 132-7, 14 feet better than her previous best throw of the season and 2-1/2 feet better than her nearest competitor, Kim Galli of Farmington.
Walker won the 3,200 meters Monday with her time of 11:55.23, placing her more than five seconds ahead of Rio Rancho’s Tamara Lementino.
Pittman, for his part, ran a season-best 4:25.05 to win the boys 1,600. He outdistanced Albuquerque Academy’s Pat Zacharias by more than five seconds as well.
