Chase Ealey picked up her second straight victory in shot put at this year’s Marilyn Sepulveda Meet of Champions.
The Meet of Champions, held Monday at the University of New Mexico Track and Field Complex, is an invitation-only meet attended by the top athletes in the state, regardless of classification.
Ealey threw 44 feet, 8 inches to defend her 2010 Marilyn Sepulveda victory. Ealey broke the meet record last year with her throw of 45-2 1/2.
Ealey also finished second in the 100 meters Monday (12.04).
In all, 10 Hilltoppers took part in the Meet of Champions.
All four of the Hilltopper boys competing the in the meet finished with personal best marks.
Kory Balog in the javelin and Andy Thoma in the 400 meters finished in third place Monday. Balog threw 173 feet, 1 inch in that event, while Thoma posted a 49.82 for his third-place finish.
Also for the Hilltopper boys, Tim Wermer was fifth in the 3,200 meters (9:54.80) and Zach Breshears had a 2:00.79 in the 800 meters, which also qualified him for this year’s state Class 4A meet. Breshears improved on his best time of 2011 by nearly five seconds with his finish.
For the Hilltopper girls, Lindsay Benage won a second-place tiebreaker over teammate Laura Wendelberger in the high jump.
Benage cleared 5-2 to finish second, as did Wendelberger. Chelsea Chalacombe finished fourth (5-0).
Teresa Sandoval was fifth in the 3200 meters (11:52.16). Victoria Honnell had a 5:37.75 in the 1600 meters for Los Alamos.
