The New TOPS Club Inc. (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter will have its first meeting from 5:40-7 p.m. Thursday at the Los Alamos United Methodist Church. The new chapter will meet every Thursday. It will be starting off with some positive news.

The numbers have been tabulated and the results are in. Members of TOPS Club Inc. lost a total of 951,902 pounds or 476 tons last year. Members in the state of New Mexico shed 2,693.75 pounds. The queen lost 62.25 pounds to goal.

The current chapter in White Rock meets Wednesdays at the White Rock Presbyterian Church. Weigh-ins start at 9 a.m. and the meeting starts at 10 a.m. The new chapter, which will meet Thursdays, will have its weigh-ins start at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Anyone older than age 7 is invited to attend as a guest at either chapter. TOPS is for anyone who is above their healthy weight or who would like to maintain their healthy weight.

There is no required eating plan or goal weight. The members and their health professionals make these decisions. TOPS is there for support and weekly monitoring.

TOPS’ philosophy is that the best way to lose and maintain a healthy weight is through education, encouragement and consistent support from others.

In addition to regular support, members receive tools and informational programs for healthy living and weight management. TOPS embraces a common-sense approach to weight loss that encourages healthful eating and regular exercise.

“The numbers are awesome and the figures are indeed fabulous,” said TOPS Board President Barbara Cady. “Losing weight as part of making the change to a healthy lifestyle is important for your overall wellness.”
