The Los Alamos Hilltopper baseball team was hammered at home by the Los Lunas Tigers.
The big-hitting Tigers scored 9 runs in their first three at-bats before the Hilltoppers got on the board at Bomber Field. The Tigers added 4 runs in the top of the fifth to close out the game early, 15-2.
Tuesday’s game was the second time this season the two teams had faced off, with Los Lunas (8-4) winning both games by identical scores.
Los Lunas is averaging better than 8 runs per contest and is a perfect 4-0 against District 2-4A teams — it shut out Bernalillo in both ends of a doubleheader March 2.
For the Hilltoppers (2-6), they have dropped four of their last five contests including the two losses to the Tigers.
They will face Durango, Colo., in the opening round of the Piedra Vista Invitational Thursday. That tournament, which will be played at Ricketts Park in Farmington, continues through Saturday.
