The Los Alamos Hilltopper boys and girls golf teams both finished third at Monday’s tournament in Santa Fe.
Both Los Alamos golf teams took part in the Capital Invitational Monday. The tournament was played at Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe.
Hilltopper freshman Johnny Osden fired a 78 to take medalist honors on the boys side, pacing Los Alamos to its total team score of 361 shots. It was the first tournament win of Osden’s career.
Osden topped Raton’s Jonathan Ford in a playoff after they finished tied atop the leaderboard through 18 holes. Tim Turnbow of Valencia (80) finished third.
The Hilltopper boys had one of their best showings of the season. Jin Park had an 85 and Raul Roybal was third on the team with a 91.
For Los Alamos’ girls, they were led by Emma Haines. Haines shot a 98, coming within six strokes of her second individual state tournament qualifying leg — she missed a week earlier in Bernalillo by just one shot.
The Hilltopper girls had a team score of 434. Santa Fe won the tournament with a state-qualifying mark of 365 and Raton shot 421 for second place.
Individually, Jody Quintana of West Las Vegas, Andrea Grijalva of Santa Fe and Mykel Rodriguez of St. Michael’s all tied for the low rounds of the day, shooting a 91. They also went to a playoff, with Quintana holding on to win.
Jayme Quintana, also of West Las Vegas, finished fourth overall, just one shot off the pace.
Other scores for the Hilltopper girls included Emily Stearns’ 101, Briana Sanderson’s 105 and Emily Johnson’s 130. Monday’s tournament was the first varsity start for Johnson, an eighth grader.
Deion Fellers finished with a 107 for Los Alamos’ boys and Greg Ahlers shot a 126.
The Hilltoppers will make their one and only home appearance of the season Monday when they host the Los Alamos Spring Invitational at Los Alamos Golf Course.
That tournament, which starts at 9 a.m., is scheduled to include 120 total golfers.
