The Los Alamos Hilltopper boys basketball team played exceptional defense Tuesday night. However, there was no offense to go along with it.
The Hilltoppers allowed just 29 points on the road against the Moriarty Pintos and yet that wasn’t good enough to pick up their first win of the season. They lost to the Pintos 29-27.
Despite the defensive effort, the team’s offensive woes continue.
This is the second time this season the Hilltoppers were held to under 30 points in a game. It marks the ninth time in the past two-plus years the Hilltoppers have managed 30 points or fewer.
It was also the lowest-scoring game Los Alamos (0-4) has been involved in since a 21-18 home loss to Pojoaque Valley in 2010.
Moriarty (3-1), meanwhile, earned its first victory of the season against a Class 4A opponent.
Los Alamos’ road doesn’t get any easier, with a Thursday night date against St. Michael’s and a Dec. 11 contest at Belen before it travels to the Albuquerque Academy Invitational Dec. 13.
