The Los Alamos Hilltopper softball team earned a pair of wins this weekend to keep with the top teams in District 2-4A this weekend.
Los Alamos trounced the Capital Jaguars in a doubleheader Saturday. Los Alamos won the first contest 22-2, then came back to trump the Jaguars 24-7 in game two. Neither game went beyond five innings.
The first inning was good to the Hilltopper offense in both contests. The Hilltoppers scored 9 runs in the first inning of game one, then came up with 11 runs in the first inning of game two to take early control.
With the two wins, Los Alamos improves to 10-10 on the season — the first time the Hilltoppers have been at the .500 mark in 2014 — and, more importantly, 4-2 in district play.
Los Alamos will be off until Saturday when it takes on the defending district champion Bernalillo on the road.
In game one Saturday, Jordan Hammock threw three innings to earn the win, her third consecutive win in district play. Hammock allowed just four hits and struck out a pair of batters.
In the second game, Kiana Zerr picked up the win, giving up seven hits and striking out six while walking just one.
Krysta Salazar, who came up huge for Los Alamos in last week’s win over Española Valley, went 2-for-5 in game two, scored three runs and knocked in four runs.
Los Alamos pounded out 12 hits in game one. Interestingly, only one of those went for extra bases. Elizabeth Anaya had a double as one of her two hits of the game.
Also in the first game, Morgan Hohner went 2-for-2, scored three times and knocked in two runs.
