With its big win Saturday night, the Los Alamos Hilltopper volleyball team should have plenty of momentum going into its final matches of the regular season.
The Hilltoppers will face off against the Santa Fe Demons Wednesday night. Game time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
With three matches remaining, two of them at home, the Hilltoppers (14-3 overall, 5-0 in 2-4A) can take another step toward clinching its third-straight district title. They knocked off what appeared to be their biggest challenger, Bernalillo, relatively easily Saturday night at home.
While Los Alamos is certainly in the district driver’s seat, there is still an outside chance the Española Valley Sundevils could sneak right back into the district race, however. The Sundevils are sitting at 3-2 in 2-4A play (8-8 overall) and would be in contention if they can win out, including topping the Hilltoppers Saturday at Griffith Gym.
It’s an unlikely scenario, however, as the Hilltoppers have won 15 straight sets against 2-4A competition and need just a win over Española Valley or wins over Santa Fe and Capital.
