The Los Alamos Hilltopper softball team improved to 2-2 in District 2-4A play with a road win Wednesday afternoon.
Los Alamos hammered the Española Valley Sundevils 10-1 in Española to keep pace with the top two teams in the district. Los Alamos scored five combined runs in the second and third innings, then rallied for five runs in the top of the fifth.
Hilltopper senior Krysta Salazar had a huge contest, going 3-for-4 and was just a single away from hitting for the cycle. Salazar had a solo home run in the game and scored three times.
In all, Los Alamos came up with 10 hits against Española Valley. Kiana Zerr and Taylor Jaramillo also had multi-hit games, with Zerr going 3-for-5 with a RBI and two runs scored and Jaramillo going 2-for-4 with a double and run knocked in.
This was the second district victory in a row for Los Alamos (8-10 overall), which was in serious danger of falling well behind in the 2-4A standings heading into the second game of a doubleheader Saturday against Santa Fe.
Currently, Los Alamos and Española Valley are both 2-2 in district. Santa Fe is 2-1 and Bernalillo is 1-0 — the Spartans’ only 2-4A game so far was a 1-0 win over Los Alamos April 2.
The Spartans and Santa Fe’s Demons will face off in a key doubleheader Saturday in Santa Fe.
Wednesday, pitcher Jordan Hammock threw a complete game. Hammock, who was also the winning pitcher in Saturday’s game two against Santa Fe, allowed just four hits and struck out six batters to pick up the win.
Los Alamos will be at Capital for a district doubleheader Saturday.
