The Los Alamos Hilltopper girls soccer team picked up its second consecutive victory Saturday in its second trip of the season to Farmington.
Los Alamos topped the Piedra Vista Panthers 1-0 Saturday, earning for itself not only a win but a measure of revenge after the Panthers downed the Hilltoppers in the first round of the 2013 playoffs.
With the victory, the Hilltoppers even their season record at 2-2. The Hilltoppers trounced the Moriarty Pintos 11-0.
It will be a big test today, however, as Los Alamos will take on St. Pius X, last season’s Class 4A state champion. St. Pius’ Sartans are a spotless 4-0 on the year heading into today’s game.
Against Piedra Vista, Los Alamos got off 8 shots to the Panthers’ 3 and controlled possession most of the contest.
Los Alamos got on the board in the 56th minute. Hilltopper Emily Hopkins got a pass from the opposite side of the box from Catie McDonald and went into the lower right-hand corner.
In goal, Anna Lemke made two stops to earn the shutout victory.
For the Panthers (3-2), it was their second shutout loss of the season. They fell 3-0 to the Sartans in their season opener Aug. 22.
