With just a handful of games left on the schedule, it’s a critical time for the Los Alamos Hilltopper boys and girls to pick up some District 2-4A wins.
Both teams have critical games left on their district schedules, starting tonight when the Hilltopper boys play at Santa Fe. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Los Alamos’ boys missed out on an opportunity Saturday night to get right into the hunt of the 2-4A race, falling at home to what appeared going into the contest a vulnerable Bernalillo Spartans squad.
The Spartans came away Saturday with a 67-59 victory at Griffith Gym, keeping them in second place in the 2-4A standings despite a Jan. 31 loss at Española Valley.
That loss dropped Los Alamos to 1-4 in district play (8-15 overall). Tonight, it will face off against Santa Fe, the only team it beat during the first half of the district season. Los Alamos picked up a 58-50 win at Griffith Gym Jan. 21.
KRSN AM 1490 is scheduled to broadcast tonight’s game. Gene Mortensen will be on the call live from Toby Roybal Memorial Gymnasium.
On the girls’ side, Los Alamos was upset Friday night at Bernalillo, taking a 34-33 loss against the Spartans.
Friday’s loss probably cost Los Alamos (11-12, 2-3) any shot it had at a 2-4A regular season title. Los Alamos will likely have to shift its focus to getting the best seed possible for the 2-4A tournament.
Los Alamos hosts Santa Fe Wednesday and will be looking to bounce back from a 54-30 rout at the Demons’ hands Jan. 20 in Santa Fe. It will also take on Española Valley Saturday night.
