The Los Alamos Hilltopper cross country teams will lace up for their final meet of the year Friday.
Their season finale, unlike most of their other meets this season, will be close to home.
The Hilltoppers will host the Los Alamos Invitational. Competition will start with the junior varsity girls’ race at 3 p.m. The meet, as usual, will be at Los Alamos Golf Course.
Los Alamos traditionally hosts its final regular season meet a week before the district championship. Both Los Alamos teams will again be heavy favorites to win the 2-4A title — the boys and girls have never lost nor been seriously challenged for the district crown since joining 2-4A in 2000.
However, the Hilltoppers will have some stiff competition to contend with Friday. Some of the top programs in the state, including Cleveland and arch-rival Albuquerque Academy are expected to take part.
Los Alamos’ teams are both ranked as the tops in Class 4A heading in. Los Alamos’ boys are anchored by a powerful nucleus of seniors, not the least of which is Sean Reardon, who has emerged as a serious contender for the 4A individual title this season. Los Alamos’ girls are the deepest team in the state and have been paced by three different runners in four meets this season (Mikayla Pulliam, Maddy Foley and Jennifer Mooday).
