Ely dealt to Astros for Rasmussen

The Albuquerque Isotopes, the Triple-A farm team of the Los Angeles Dodgers, announced Wednesday that the Dodgers traded pitcher John Ely to the Houston Astros.
Ely, who was named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Year for 2012, was 14-7 with the Isotopes last year and finished with a ERA of 3.20.
He was traded to the Astros for left-handed pitcher Rob Rasmussen. Rasmussen was in the Astros’ farm system.
Ely, who is 26, was acquired by the Dodgers in 2009 in a trade with the Chicago White Sox. He is 4-13 in the Major Leagues in 25 appearances and has a big league ERA of 5.70.
Rasmussen, 23, is a native of Southern California. The Dodgers actually drafted him out of high school, but Rasmussen elected to play ball at UCLA.
Rasmussen was drafted again in 2010 by the Marlins organization, then traded to Houston in July as part of the deal that sent Carlos Lee to Miami.
In three minor league seasons, Rasmussen is 20-21 with a 3.88 ERA. He went 4-4 at Double-A Corpus Christi last year.
