Isotopes win third straight to close out series with Fresno
Just after he was named the Pacific Coast League Batter of the Week, Jamie Hoffman pounded four hits and knocked in three runs, leading the Albuquerque Isotopes to a needed road win.
The Isotopes won in Fresno Monday night, taking an 8-4 victory over the Grizzlies at Chukchansi Park.
Albuquerque scored three runs in the second inning Monday and added another pair in the third to take control of the contest. Albuquerque finished with 16 hits, three more added by Tim Federowicz, to secure the win.
The Isotopes (63-60), unfortunately, didn’t gain any ground on the division-leading Round Rock Express, who are still up by a healthy nine games in the PCL American South standings. The Isotopes have just 21 games remaining on the season, although nine of those games are head-to-head contests against the Express (72-51), including the final four games of the season.
Albuquerque pitcher Mike Parisi (4-1) picked up his third straight win, throwing six innings. Parisi allowed only one run through the first five innings against Fresno, but the Grizzlies got to him in the sixth, scoring three times to move to within 6-4, although Albuquerque picked up single tallies in both the seventh and eighth innings.
For Hoffmann, he became the third Isotope to be honored by the PCL for his work the previous week. In six games last week, Hoffmann hit .555, collecting 15 hits, seven extra-base hits and driving in 13 runs.
He joins Russ Mitchell, the previous week’s Batter of the Week, and Dana Eveland, who was Pitcher of the Week the week prior.
The win was the third straight by the Isotopes over the Grizzlies, who won Friday’s series opener. The Isotopes open a four-game set with Sacramento tonight before returning to Albuquerque Saturday.
