Colorado Springs wins series opener
The Sky Sox hammered Albuquerque pitchers Derrick Loop and Cole St. Clair Tuesday night in Colorado Springs.
The Isotopes and Sky Sox opened a four-game set Tuesday with the Sky Sox scoring nine runs in four innings off Loop en route to a 12-9 victory.
However, it was St. Clair (3-3) who took the loss for Albuquerque (71-53), giving up three runs in three innings after the Isotopes battled back from a 9-4 deficit to tie the score in the top of the sixth.
Albuquerque will play three more games at Colorado Springs, including tonight, before returning home for a four-game set with New Orleans Saturday night. New Orleans is sitting in second place behind Albuquerque in the division standings, three games back.
Josh Fields, who had a key hit in Monday’s win over Reno, went 3-for-5 and scored two runs against Colorado Springs, while Jerry Sands, who returned to Albuquerque following a brief stint with the Los Angeles Dodgers, was 2-for-6 and drove in three runs.
But the Sky Sox, who scored six times in the third, rallied for three runs in the sixth to reclaim the lead. Colorado Springs’ Brandon Wood and Chad Tracy had run-scoring singles in the sixth to give the Sky Sox the lead and ultimately the victory.
Tuesday’s loss snapped a three-game win streak for the Isotopes.
