Isotopes win both ends of home doubleheader Thursday
The Albuquerque Isotopes swept both ends of a doubleheader Thursday against the Oklahoma City RedHawks.
Albuquerque (52-47) won the opener 8-4 while Dana Eveland pitched six solid innings in the nightcap to help his team to a 6-1 win in the nightcap. Both games were seven-inning affairs.
The Isotopes played the doubleheader with the RedHawks (42-57) after Wednesday night’s game was rained out. Heavy rain poured about a half-hour prior to Wednesday’s start time.
The Isotopes had lost the first two games of their home series against the RedHawks prior to Thursday’s sweep.
They remain six games behind Round Rock’s Express for the PCL American South division lead.
In the opener, Albuquerque again jumped out to a big lead early only to see it disappear, as happened in the first two games of the series. Albuquerque scored four times in the second, but Oklahoma City countered with four runs in the third.
However, unlike in the first two games, Albuquerque was able to bounce back. Albuquerque scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the sixth to earn the win.
Second baseman Ivan DeJesus went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and drove in three runs, while shortstop Dee Gordon was 2-for-3, scored a run and knocked in a run in the first game.
In the nightcap, Eveland (10-5) gave up just four hits in his six innings of work to claim the win.
He allowed just one earned run and struck out seven RedHawks.
Offensively, six different Isotopes drove in runs. Right fielder Jerry Sands went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and scored twice.
The Isotopes open a four-game set with New Orleans tonight. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
Following that series, the Isotopes will hit the road again, traveling to Omaha starting Tuesday.
