Fresno tops Albuquerque, 10-7
The Albuquerque Isotopes weathered a big inning by the Fresno Grizzlies in Tuesday’s game, but couldn’t pull off the same feat Wednesday.
Fresno scored five runs in the top of the fifth inning to defeat Albuquerque 10-7 Wednesday night at Isotopes Park. The finale of their four-game series is tonight in Albuquerque.
Fernando Nieve (1-2, 11.19 ERA) struggled in the fifth after replacing starting pitcher Mike Parisi. Nieve surrendered two home runs in the inning, including a grand slam by Fresno’s Roger Kieschnick after the Grizzlies loaded the bases on a single, an error by first baseman Jeff Baisley and a hit batsman.
Albuquerque pounded out 13 hits and scored single runs in each of the final four innings, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a pair of late two-run innings by Fresno.
The loss, combined with an Oklahoma City rainout Wednesday, moved the teams into a tie atop the PCL American Southern standings. The Isotopes and Oklahoma City’s RedHawks play four games in Albuquerque starting Friday.
