Isotopes top Sky Sox for third straight win
Blake Johnson tossed six innings of scoreless ball Tuesday night as the Albuquerque Isotopes topped the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 7-3 at Isotopes Park.
The win was the third straight for the Isotopes (23-22) to help them get back on the plus-side of .500. The Isotopes had lost six of eight contests prior to this three-game win streak.
Johnson allowed just five hits in six innings and struck out four batters to secure the victory on the hill for Albuquerque.
Isotope middle infielders Alfredo Amezaga and Elian Herrera went a combined 7-for-9 at the plate and drove in a combined four runs, while Chili Buss had a triple in the seventh inning to score Herrera. Herrera’s big night at the plate was his team-leading 15th multi-hit game of the season.
Sky Sox starting pitcher Drew Pomeranz suffered his first loss of the season, allowing four runs on eight hits in 5-2/3 innings.
Albuquerque will go for a fourth consecutive victory tonight against Colorado Springs — the Isotopes have taken the first two of the four-game set with the Sky Sox. Aaron Laffey (1-1, 5.19 ERA) is scheduled to start.
The Isotopes will go on the road starting Friday for the start of an eight-game road trip.
Magill rejoins Isotopes pitching staff
Right-handed pitcher Matt Magill rejoined the Isotopes Tuesday after his stint with the Los Angeles Dodgers, which started April 27.
To make room for Magill’s return to the Albuquerque roster, righty Steve Smith was sent down to Double-A Chattanooga.
Magill made four appearances with the Dodgers during his time in the majors, including his first ever Major League start April 27. Magill didn’t factor into any decisions with the Dodgers and had a 5.50 ERA, struck out 19 and walked 13.
