Albuquerque blasted in series opener Thursday night
A few days ago, the Albuquerque Isotopes were on a roll, but since then they’ve lost three straight contests, including being on the wrong end of a waxing to start a long homestand.
The Isotopes were thumped by the Sacramento River Cats 16-5 at Isotopes Park Thursday. The River Cats pounded out 18 hits and scored 11 times in the first three innings to cruise to the win.
Unfortunately for the Isotopes, the River Cats are expecting slugger Manny Ramirez to join the team this weekend as Ramirez starts a rehab assignment.
Sacramento designated hitter Chris Carter went 3-for-5 with two home runs Thursday, scoring four times and driving in six runs. Center fielder Grant Green was 3-for-6 and scored four runs.
The River Cats chased off Albuquerque starting pitcher Michael Antonini (1-2) after just 1-1/3 innings. Antonini surrendered eight hits and six earned runs.
One of the few highlights for the Isotopes was shortstop Luis Cruz, who went 3-for-4 with a double, triple and two runs scored.
Albuquerque plays Sacramento tonight and Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Sunday’s game is a 1:35 p.m. start time at Isotopes Park.
The Isotopes (24-17) will be at home through May 28. This is their longest homestand of the season.
