Isotopes close series with New Orleans tonight

The Albuquerque Isotopes will be looking to win its third series of the young season tonight when they face the New Orleans Zephyrs.
Albuquerque and New Orleans will play their final game of a quick, four-game visit to Isotopes Park. Albuquerque will travel to Nashville for four games starting Thursday, then return to take on Omaha Monday.
The Isotopes, who had lost three of four games, nipped the Zephyrs Monday night. JD Closser’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth scored Corey Smith to give the Isotopes a 7-6 win Monday.
With the score tied at 6 heading into Albuquerque’s final at-bat, Smith led off the inning with a base hit. Smith moved to third on Trent Oeltjen’s base hit and scored on Closser’s fly ball two batters later.
Merkin Valdez (1-0), picked up the win for Albuquerque. Valdez came on in the eighth forcing Vinny Rottino to ground into an inning-ending double play, killing a potentially big inning for New Orleans.
Albuquerque, which won Saturday’s opener 12-8 against New Orleans, fell 10-9 Sunday afternoon.
Albuquerque (10-8) remains in second place in the PCL American South division, 2-1/2 games behind Round Rock. New Orleans (9-10) is in third place, 4 games back of Round Rock.
The Isotopes also announced that, prior to its May 8 game against Memphis, there will be a charity celebrity softball game at Isotopes Park. The cast members of “Breaking Bad” will take on the cast members of “In Plain Sight,” two television shows that shoot episodes in the Albuquerque area, will play in the charity contest.
The game will benefit Youth Development, Inc.
