Isotopes hold on to top I-Cubs, 10-7
The Albuquerque Isotopes had a big lead heading into the seventh inning, but had to survive a late rally by the Iowa Cubs Wednesday.
Albuquerque put up five runs in the fourth inning and another in the sixth to go up 10-3 against the Cubs, but the Cubs scored four unanswered runs in the final three innings to make things interesting.
The Isotopes, however, hung on for a 10-7 victory at Isotopes Park. The win was the third in a row for the Isotopes (5-2), who concluded their season-opening homestand today against the Cubs — results weren’t available as of press time.
Roman Colon came on in relief in the eighth inning for Albuquerque and retired five of the seven batters he faced. Iowa’s Jonathon Mota reached on an error in the ninth and scored on a double by Scott Moore as Iowa pulled within three runs.
In the fourth, Trent Oeltjen hit a two-run home run and Francisco Felix had a two-run single to key the rally and put Albuquerque up big.
Next up, the Isotopes will be on the road for four games, at Oklahoma City, then at Iowa for four games. They will return to Albuquerque April 23 for four games against the New Orleans Zephyrs.
