Fields’ homer wins it in ninth
Pinch-hitter Josh Fields’ solo home run in the top of the ninth lifted the Albuquerque Isotopes to a win over the Iowa Cubs Tuesday.
Albuquerque picked up its second win of the young 2012 season at Des Moines Tuesday afternoon, topping the I-Cubs 6-5 on the strength of Fields’ homer.
After the I-Cubs tied the game with a pair of runs in the eighth, Fields came up to bat in the ninth for pitcher Derrick Loop and touched I-Cubs reliever Jeff Beliveau (0-1) for the pinch-hit dinger with two outs. It was Fields’ first home run of the year.
Albuquerque and Iowa play the third of their four-game series tonight after splitting the first two contests.
For the Isotopes (2-4), second baseman Alex Castellanos went 2-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored. Jeff Baisley and Scott Van Slyke were both 2-for-4 and drove in two runs.
Loop (1-0) picked up the win despite giving up the two runs in the eighth inning. Starting pitcher Mike Parisi went five innings and give up three earned runs.
